HINDU-BUDHIST TRAIL AT JAGO TEMPLE

End of September 2010, I got a job to covered some stories at East Java. I am  going to Surabaya, Malang and Pasuruan, to be precisely. In between 8 days of working, I have one day free time in Malang area. When going to somewhere new, I usually do the Culinary tour. But then I think again, I wanna choose another alternative ... Historic Tourism. Kinda cool, huh?! LOL

My main goal are Jago temple at Tumpang area, Malang city. The reason why I wanna visit this sites was when I go hiked to Mt . Semeru in October 2008 , I see this temple signboard at the roadside. I was so curious at that time about it and I promise to myself that someday if  I will visited these site when I got a chance to revisit Malang city.

Too bad, I didn't know how to get there, so I'm calling a backup, my uncle and aunt from my father side. I ask them if there's any family member whom could accompany me to visit this temple. Finally my uncle  sent a delegation which is his niece a.k.a my cousin. His names is Basuki.

We met at my hotel lobby and with his motorcycle, we go to Tumpang area. It's actually pretty easy to get to the Tumpang area by Malang public transportation. Just go to the Arjosari terminal at Malang and take a white minibus with code AT (Arjosari-Tumpang). It will take you to Tumpang terminal or traditional market (it's side by side) for only IDR 3000 - 4000 for one and half hour ride. Really cheap, right?!

This Jago temple was
located behind the Tumpang traditional market, but the signboard of this temple located about 100 meter before the market. Follow the road and you will find the Jago temple. If you are still confused, just asked peoples on the street for the directions to these temple.

Jago Temple
The entry fee is actually free. But because I've seen the Jago temple area actually really clean and neat, so I give some money or tip to the guard.

According to Negarakertagama book, Jago temple originally named Jajaghu temple. These temple used to serves royal family of Wisnuwardhana, a king of Singosari kingdom who died at 1268. Based on the Wisnuwardhana religion, these temple was a Shiva-Buddhist temple or used to be called as Hindu-Buddhist temple.

These temple has combine relief from the Hinduism religion and Buddhist religion. Unfortunately, i didn't know which relief was a Hindu or Buddhist because simply i didn't ask the guard to tell the story.. *stupid me*
Pose at Jago temple
Jago temple maybe small but it was worth to see and hear some story about the kingdom of Singosari that ever ruled at 1222 - 1292 at East Java. The only problem I see on these Hindu Budhist temple site was there were only one guard and I didn't think he could speak English, so if you can't speak Bahasa, please ask your friends who could speak Bahasa to translate it for you.
